South Pittsburgh Veterinary Service is two clinics operating under one philosophy: comprehensive veterinary medicine, delivered the way you'd want it for your own family. We see puppies and kittens through to senior pets, and we tend to stick around for the whole journey.

Our doctors and technicians are credentialed, experienced, and genuinely fond of the animals who come through our doors. We invest in modern diagnostics, digital radiology, and in-house laboratory work because faster answers mean better outcomes. We invest in time with our clients because medicine you don't understand isn't medicine you can act on.

If you're looking for a clinic that will know your pet by name, return your call the same day, and explain the bloodwork without making you feel rushed, you've found the right place. Both locations are accepting new clients by appointment.

Care we provide

Comprehensive veterinary services, under one roof.

From the first puppy or kitten visit through senior wellness and end-of-life care, we offer the full range of preventive, diagnostic, and surgical medicine your pet will need across a lifetime.

Wellness Exams

Annual and semi-annual exams tailored to your pet's age, lifestyle, and risk factors. We screen early for the signs that matter most, dental disease, weight shifts, joint changes, and bloodwork trends.

Vaccinations

Individualized vaccine protocols following current AAHA and AAFP guidelines, not assembly-line. Puppy and kitten series, adult boosters, lifestyle vaccines, and the rationale explained for each one.

Pet Surgery

Routine spays and neuters through advanced soft-tissue procedures, mass removals, and exploratory surgery. Tailored anesthetic plans, dedicated monitoring, and modern multimodal pain management.

Dental Care

Full anesthetic cleanings, scaling, polishing, charting, extractions, and digital dental radiology. We identify and treat disease under the gumline, which is where most of what matters happens.

Digital Radiology

The most advanced form of X-ray technology, giving us superior images for a faster, more accurate diagnosis. Both clinics are equipped for immediate imaging, so answers don't require a second visit.

Laboratory Diagnostics

In-house bloodwork, urinalysis, cytology, and rapid diagnostics for same-visit answers when time matters. Reference-lab partnerships for specialized testing, with results explained in plain language.

Sick Visits

When something is off, we make room. Thorough history, hands-on exam, targeted diagnostics, and a written plan you can take home. Chronic disease management for diabetes, kidney disease, and arthritis.

Nurse Appointments

Quicker, more affordable visits with our credentialed veterinary nurses. Nail trims, anal glands, ear cleanings, nutrition counseling, weight checks, and routine sample collection between annual exams.

Microchipping

A permanent identification system, the most reliable way to reunite a lost pet with their family. Takes seconds to implant, lasts a lifetime, and we register the chip to you before you leave the clinic.

End-of-Life Care

Compassionate, unhurried care when a pet's final chapter approaches. Pain management, quality-of-life conversations, and gentle in-clinic euthanasia handled with the dignity your family deserves.

Disease Management

Long-term plans for chronic conditions, diabetes, hypothyroidism, kidney disease, osteoarthritis, allergies, and more. Regular check-ins, bloodwork monitoring, and adjustments as your pet's needs change.

Nutrition Counseling

Practical, evidence-based guidance on what to feed your pet and why. Weight management, life-stage diet transitions, therapeutic diets for medical conditions, and honest takes on food trends.

Why families choose us

The clinic that knows your pet, and you.

Big-box veterinary chains have their place. We are not one of them. We're a family-owned practice that has cared for South Hills pets for decades, and we operate on a simpler set of principles.

  • i.

    You'll see the same doctor.

Continuity matters. Subtle changes in weight, behavior, or bloodwork are easier to catch when the same person has been watching all along.

  • ii.

    We explain everything.

Diagnoses, options, costs, and prognosis, in plain language. You leave with a written plan and a clear sense of what comes next.

  • iii.

    Same-day answers when we can.

In-house diagnostics and digital radiology let us move from question to plan in a single visit, instead of stretching things across a week.

  • iv.

    Honest recommendations.

We won't push tests or treatments that don't change the plan. We will tell you, plainly, when something is worth doing, and when it isn't.

In their words

What families tell us.

The doctor sat with us for forty minutes after our senior dog's diagnosis. We didn't leave with just a prescription, we left understanding what was happening and what to expect.
Maria K.Bridgeville, PA
I've taken three generations of cats here. They know us, they remember the pets, and they call back the same day. That's increasingly rare and worth every mile of the drive.
James H.Canonsburg, PA
They never push tests or treatments we don't need. When our puppy needed surgery, they walked us through every option and every cost up front. No surprises.

Are you accepting new clients?

Yes. Both Bridgeville and McDonald locations are accepting new clients by appointment. To get started, call the location nearest you or send us a message through the contact form. We'll set up your first visit and request any prior records from your previous veterinarian.

What should I bring to my pet's first appointment?

If you have them, please bring previous vaccine records, recent bloodwork, and a list of any medications or supplements your pet is currently taking. If you don't, no problem, we'll request records from your previous clinic. A current stool sample is also helpful for routine wellness visits.

Do you offer same-day sick appointments?

We do our best to fit in sick visits the same day when possible. Call us as early as you can in the morning, describe the symptoms, and we'll find a slot. For after-hours emergencies, we'll direct you to the nearest 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital.

How do prescription refills work?

You can request refills by phone, in person, or through our online pharmacy partners (Vets First Choice, Purina ProPlan VetDirect, and Mix Labs). Refills require an active doctor-patient-client relationship, which generally means a wellness exam within the last 12 months. Some chronic medications may require more frequent rechecks.

Do you take pet insurance?

We do not bill insurance companies directly. Payment is collected at the time of service, and we provide a detailed invoice you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Most plans reimburse within a few weeks.

Can I switch between your two locations?

Absolutely. Your pet's medical records are shared between Bridgeville and McDonald, so you can schedule at whichever clinic is more convenient for a given visit. Many of our clients use both.

How do I send patient records to you?

The fastest way is to email records directly to the clinic, or sign a release that allows us to request them from your previous veterinarian. We handle the back-and-forth so you don't have to.

Ready when you are.

Schedule a wellness visit, request a refill, or send us a question. We answer phone calls and messages the same business day.
